Steelers vs Browns

One of the craziest things to ever happen on a football field occurred this past Thursday night for the NFL’S weekly Thursday night football game. This was a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers vs the Cleveland Browns—two teams fighting for position in the AFC North Division.

With only EIGHT seconds to go in the contest, defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, Myles Garrett—decided to take quarterback for the Steelers, Mason Rudolph to the ground and rough the passer for no apparent reason with the game in absolutely no doubt with the Browns having a 21-7 lead. This prompted Rudolph to try to get Garrett off of him in any way he possibly could. With both players on the ground, this led to Garrett pulling off Rudolph’s helmet off of his head, and hitting him in the head with it.

This is something that has never been seen in football, much less the NFL. With many former players and coaches immediately calling for the NFL to take harsh but appropriate action. After watching the video of this incident several times, I believe this is type of action has absolutely no place in sports, including a violent game like football and the NFL. The league made a decision the very next morning to suspend Garrett for at least the rest of the season and playoffs—not ruling out him missing time in 2020 as well. The NFL over the last several years has made some questionable decisions, but this is not one of them. The NFL did the right thing by suspending him indefinitely, and hopefully this type pf response never happens again in sports.
