Sports Talk with Charles Ramsey

Well, it has been a very interesting and exciting week 1 of Texas high school football in the area and it really lends itself to great anticipation of future non district matchups and the intensity that comes with district play.

When we visited with the head coaches for several of the teams in the SportsTalk 1230 listening area to preview their teams and seasons in early August, we were given the typical responses to questions about their teams outlook and returning players, which in plain terms are called “coach speak” but I felt like I could also read between the lines a bit and sense real optimism and excitement in some of their responses to my questions.

Like Olney Cubs Head Coach Jody Guy, attempting to mask his enthusiasm at having a son taking the role of signal caller in their veer offense and Seymour Head Coach Hugh Farmer giving a restrained answer about his Sophomore Quarterback, Keegan Gilbreath. All of these coaches we talked to do a great job on our program, Lawdog Sports, and each bring their own joy for us interacting with them as hosts. My co-host Cory Hogue and I have read enough to know their chomping at the bit to get on the field and see what their stars in the making can accomplish.

Like in the six man ranks, where Knox City Greyhounds Head Coach Caleb Callaway was very hesitant to praise the players that opposing coaches stated will definitely be difference makers. Be coy with your families coaches but just know The Lawdog Chuck Ramsey knows better.

Not every team fared well in week one but the Texas High School Football season is more like a marathon than a sprint. That’s how district play can be summed up.

Best of luck to all the teams in the area and we hope to have many more great victories in non-district play for each of you.

I hope you all will tune in to the High School Football Recap show on Saturday mornings at 10:00 AM with myself and Cory Hogue from the Times Record News on SportsTalk 1230 AM and streaming live on the SportsTalk 1230 Facebook page and previous episodes can be heard on the podcast section at Lawdogsports.com.
