Olney v. Newcastle in the Battle for the Oil Bowl

Since 1938, the Maskat Shriner Oil Bowl has been the most anticipated sporting event for North Texas high school sports enthusiasts to look forward to at the end of each school year.

It’s a battle between the East and West Texas all-star players each June for bragging rights.

The competition includes a football, volleyball and basketball game with the best players from all over North Texas. This year’s Oil Bowl saw a limited number of Olney and Newcastle players but did have a great battle during the Oil Bowl volleyball game with Olney High School Lady Cub Jaylee Bowers playing for the East and Newcastle ISD Ladycat Mya Cabrera repping the West.

It was an intense battle at the net between the two all-stars, Jaylee and Mya, both with numerous blocks, kills and scores but in the end the West beat out the East for bragging rights and Mya Cabrera will take back the win to Newcastle after a huge year of winning the state basketball competition with her Ladycats teammates. Well done to both competitors who represented Olney and Newcastle proudly.
