Olney High School Students Gather to Pray and Fellowship at OHS

Olney High School students gathered in front of the high school on Sept. 28 to participate in See You at the Pole to pray and show fellowship with students around the world.

The global event began in 1990 with only ten students participating. Today, millions of students participate worldwide, according to the event web site, syatp.com.

With around 50 students participating, the OHS event was a success. Students chatted quietly, enjoyed donuts provided by the Olney Fellowship of Christian Athletes and then joined hands and prayed before classes began.

OHS student Sawyer Edgington explained that he attended “to pray over the school for the school year.” OHS senior Adelade Edgington said See You at the Pole “is a way for the Christians in the school to show that they care about their schoolmates, teachers, coaches and we pray for them.”

“I’d like everybody to come and pray for the school,” said OHS student Brady Lisle. “Everybody gets together and has an opportunity to talk to God.”

Student Katelynn Bailey said she came to the flagpole to encourage other students to meet and pray together. “I just want other people in our school to get into the fellowship and into a church body,” she said.

OHS Coach Jason Powers, also director of Olney FCA said, the event gave students the chance to start the year out right. “See you at the poll is the national day where students are going to meet around the flagpole before school in the morning,” he said. “Pray over the school year, pray for the leadership of the country, the school districts and students. It really doesn’t even have to be just about the schools but it’s just a way to outreach for our ministry.”
