The Olney Cubs face defeat by the Archer City Wildcats

The Olney Cubs faced off against the undefeated Archer City Wildcats on Friday, September 21, at Cub Stadium in Olney.

During a continuous rain and windstorm, the Cubs fought to gain ground against the Wildcats. Despite their efforts, they were defeated, with a score of 50-0. The Cubs now stand at 2-2 for the season.

In the first quarter, the Wildcats scored four touchdowns and three two-point conversions. The Wildcats defense was able to prevent the Cubs from scoring.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats scored two touchdowns in which the kick for the extra point was good. The Cubs offense was unable to break through the Wildcats defense to score in the second quarter. This brought the score to 44-0.

The third quarter had the Wildcats with another touchdown, but the Cubs were able to keep them from scoring again. The Wildcats defense kept the Cubs from getting into the endzone. The score at the end of the third quarter was 50-0.

The effort continued into the fourth quarter, where the Cubs were able to hold back the Wildcats. The Cubs offense still had trouble breaking through the Wildcats defense. The game ended with a win for the Wildcats.

“We had trouble getting their defensive line and linebackers on the ground,” said Olney Athletic Coach Jody Guy. “We need to do a better job of cutting on both levels. On defense, we need to do a better job tackling in space. We will take this next week to fix those areas and get ready for Irion County.”

The Cubs will face the Irion County Hornets at 7 p.m. on September 27 at Mustang Stadium in Sweetwater, Texas.
