OJH bands are ‘excellent’ at Wichita Falls

The Olney Junior High School seventh and eighth grade bands earned top ratings in the UIL Region 7 Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations at Wichita Falls High School April 6.

The seventh grade band under the direction of Dr. Rodney Bennett received an “Excellent” rating for the concert portion of the performance. The concert tunes played were “Manchester March” by John Edmondson, “Qin Shi’s Stone Army” by Tyler Arcari, and “Rust Belt” by William Owens.

The eighth grade band under the direction of Marilyn Bennett received an “excellent” rating in the concert portion. The concert tunes were “Freedom March” by Dennis Eveland, “Annunciation” by Michael Story, and “Egyptique” by William Owens.

In the sight-reading portion, the seventh grade band received a “first-division rating,” and the eighth grade band received a “superior” rating. Both bands earned a plaque in recognition of their superior efforts. Sight-reading evaluations consist of band members reading and performing a previously unseen piece of music.
