OHS hosts inter squad scrimmage

On August 06, Olney High School [OHS] hosted a Inter Squad Scrimmage. The scrimmage was a mix of Junior Varsity [JV] and Varsity [V] Cub football players. The Cubs are looking like they will make another run deep into the play offs, with a mix of returning talent and returning seasoned players.

The Cubs have seen great success over the past three years with the addition of OISD Athletic Director and Head Coach of the Olney Cub Football Team, Coach Jody Guy. Coach Guy brought in an Offensive Coordinator, Coach Greg Fortner and a Defensive Coordinator, Coach Jason Powers. The trio have brought the Cubs out of a long losing streak that lasted around twelve years. The Cubs success reached a peak last season with a deep playoff run, a bi-district title and a chance at going to state. The Cub Coaches plan on continuing this success this year and to help with that, Coach Guy scheduled a Inter Squad Scrimmage to give the players a chance to fight for open positions on the Varsity Squad and help work out the cobwebs of the summer.

Coach Guy Said, “We had a good scrimmage. It was our first day of full contact and the kids were very physical and were flying around. About the upcoming season, We are looking forward to this year. We have an experienced group of players that we are counting on. These kids have been put through the fire the last few years and are ready to take the next step and make a deep playoff run.” Cub Defensive Coordinator, Coach Powers, said “The defense had to learn to play without him last year [Cub star player AB Marquez], they had some growing pains and it was terrible for AB but I think we will reap the rewards from that this season.” Cubs Offensive Coordinator, Coach Fortner said, “I think it went as well as it could for having a lot of young kids getting reps against 2-year starters! They really stepped up and didn’t shy away from the culture that we have created as being a very physical team.

I’m excited for this year because we are starting to see the investment that these kids have put in during the summers and school breaks that most students get off for the last 3 years.”.

The Cubs need the community of Olney’s support, come out and cheer on your Olney Cubs this season.
