Cubs vs. Alvord

The Olney Cubs travelled to Alvord to do battle with the Bulldogs in the first game of the season. The Cubs were firing on all cylinders against the Bulldogs including the doomsday defense of the Cubs who had their way with the Bulldogs’ offense. After a great half, the Cubs were up 12-6 over the Bulldogs. The Cubs came out of the locker room and seemed to have lost a little fire but continued to dominate defensively. Had the defense not missed two breakaway plays by the Bulldogs, they would have claimed the win. In the end, the Cubs fell to the Bulldogs 12-13. Fight on, Cubs!

It was a night that left the crowd scratching their heads about many calls by the referees, including two Cubs safeties that were not counted. Here #21 Rylan Carter and #56 Noah Enriquez broke through the line, catching a Bulldog running back off guard for a safety. Unfortunately, the refs didn’t see it that way. The Cubs defense spent most of the game breaking through a bewildered Bulldog offense, sacking and rushing the quarterback on several occasions and catching running backs in the backfield. The Cubs secondary did a great job against receivers but missed two breakaway plays that led to Bulldog touchdowns.

#5 Jose Castillo, Cub wide receiver and defensive linemen, was having a great night on offense and defense. Shown is Castillo catching a pass that he bobbled just a bit but gained control of quickly and drove through defenders almost scoring on the play. The Cubs offense continued with a mix of the running game they are known for and added in bigger, splashy pass plays that had the Cub fans on their feet cheering.

#11 Braulio Flores, Cub Defensive back and wide receiver, was on fire in the Cubs matchup against the Alvord Bulldogs. Catching passes and interceptions on either side of the ball, Flores got a bit of a nickname after the announcer kept calling him Broolio instead of Braulio and fans who knew the error went along with some friendly jests, shouting way to go Broolio! Flores is a very dangerous Cub player and opponents will grow weary of this weapon of mass destruction on the Cubs offense!
