Cubs, Lady Cubs start track season

Coach Jason Powers brought the Olney Track team to a meet in Anson on Feb. 26.

The Cubs and Lady Cubs did well, getting a great start to the season and taking home many learning opportunities.

For the boys varsity 100 meter race, each student passed their personal record, with Jamarcus Collins placing 11th, Wacey Canada 15th, and Eli Clayton placing 16th.

The boys’ Junior Varsity team had Ariel Ramirez placing 11th and Damian Hernadez placing 13th for the JV 100-meter race.

For the boy’s varsity 200-meter race, Daniel Dixon placed 8th, Kanton Rodgers 15th, and Clayton placed 16th.

The JV 200-meter race was run by Ariel Ramirez, who placed 11th, and Damian Hernadez, who placed 14th. For the Varsity boys 400 meters, Juan Castillo placed 11th, and Kanton Rodgers placed 14th.

The Varsity 800-meter race was run by Caden Lane, who placed 10th, and Sawyer Edgington, who placed 11th.

The Varsity 1600-meter race was run by Jax Laurent, placing 7th, Caden Lane, who was 10th, and Adrian Gonzales, who placed 12th.

For the 3200 Meter Varsity Boys race, Lauraent placed 4th, Gonzales 6th, and Edgington 7th. The 4X200 relay was run by Dixon, Collins, Rodgers, and Canada, with their team placing last.

For the Varsity boys field events, Peyton Valdez placed 5th in the shot put, with Carson Boston placing 6th in the JV shot put finals.

For the JV discus finals, Preston Birbeck placed 5th; for the Varsity Long Jump Finals, Dixon placed 4th, Collins 6th, and Canada finished 12th. For the Varsity Triple jump Finals, Collins placed 5th.

The Lady Cubs 400 meter race was run by Katey Rosales, placing 5th, Addison Argraz 13th, and Emily Marquez, 16th.

The Lady Cubs 200 meter race was run by Natalie Rodriguez, who placed 16th; Camryn Castro, who placed 20th; and Krystal Hernandez, who placed 22nd. The girls’ 400-meter race was run by Agraz, who placed 10th; Castro, who placed 13th; and Hernandez, who placed 14th.

The 800-meter race was run by Rodriguez, who placed 7th, Marquez, who placed 11th, and Airreal Herrera, who finished 16th.

Jaylee Bowers placed first in the 100m and 300 Hurdles, with Ana Vasquez following up in 3rd place for the 100m hurdles and 6th for the 300m hurdles.

The Lady Cubs 4x400 relay team consisted of Rosales, Vasquez, Castro, and Jylee Bowers, finishing 4th place out of six teams.

Darla Castillo placed 8th in shot put for the Lady Cubs varsity field events, and Rosales placed 7th in the Long Jump.

The Olney Cubs did well in this meet despite not finishing first overall as a school; each student- athlete broke their record and improved during this learning experience.
