Cubs dominate Chico dragons in opener
The Olney Cubs varsity basketball team hosted the Chico Dragons for a season opener. The Cubs team is stacked with talent this season and looks to go far into the playoffs, with some teammates having played the game together since 5 and 6 years old.
The Cubs put the Dragons down by a score of 56-53 after a back-andforth battle. The Cubs took the lead early in the match-up, 18-11, at the end of the first period. But the Cubs took their foot off the gas at the start of the second period, allowing the Dragons to gain momentum in the game. The second period ended with the Dragons scoring 17 points to the Cubs’ 13 points.
The Cubs came out of the locker room fired up and fought tooth and nail and managed to keep the Dragons close, scoring 13 points to the Dragons 15. The Cubs wouldn’t be denied their first home game victory, outscoring the Dragons in the fourth period 13-10. #2 Ryder Lyle led the Cubs for the night with three outside the line, four free throws and one floater for a total of 15 points for the night. Fight on, Cubs!
