Wondering

Sometimes I wonder what goes through people’s minds that feel that they have to enforce the rules for those around them. I am not talking about police upholding the law, I am referring to the ones who always feel they have to correct everyone’s spelling or punctuation, the ones who block the passing lane to make sure people don’t speed and the ones who run to the boss at the first sign of trouble.

Maybe it started at an early age as a hall monitor, who knows? The one who always gets my goat is the person correcting everyone’s grammar and punctuation. Language was invented to communicate with other humans. As long as the two humans understand what the other is trying to get across, what does it matter if there is a misplaced comma, period or misspelled word? Seems like some humans are never content with letting things stay simple; they need to add rules for everything, when rules are not needed. Not to get confused with laws, which can and are, for the most part, important in most cases.

I lost count on how many times I have seen someone blocking traffic by matching the speed of the cars in the right lane. The far-left lane is for passing and if you’re not passing you should get over to the right. Thereis something inside some people that make them have the hall monitor mentality, as I put it.

In this day and age, I would like to see more ‘live and let live’ mentality, meaning if something someone is doing doesn’t affect you negatively then just ignore it and move on with your day. I have always tried my best to live by that example, along with good manners, being polite and trying to be helpful to those around me who might need help. I am far from perfect and do my best not to judge, sometimes we just need to vent a little, which is ok as long as you say your piece and move on. For me, publicly correcting someone’s grammar on social media seems more about the person doing the correcting then it does about the person using the wrong grammar. For me, it’s just plain rude. What are some of the things that annoy you? Do you have any pet peeves?

This is Will B saying, live & let live and maybe let people be wrong sometimes.
