Will B. Enjoying the Little Things!

Most people, myself included, have memories and even daily activities filled with extremes. It is either a really bad day or a really great day! The same with most memories. The memory is memorable because it was a day to remember or it was a day filled with dread.

If your days are filled like mine, they are mostly mundane days, filled with mostly nothing important as far as excitement or dread. There might be highs and lows getting through the week, but for the most part just any other normal mundane week filled with waking up to a quick breakfast or coffee and toast, and off to work or school. Same routine at work. Finish tasks and then look when it is time to go home. Nights are usually dinner with some favorite shows then off to bed.

When you look at it that way it seems a little depressing. I learned a valuable lesson when I worked for Home Depot. Home Depot is a great company to work for and I grew quite a bit in my six years working there. I miss working for them to this day. Back to the point at hand. One of the greatest things I learned was to celebrate all the wins, even the small wins, and learn and move on from mistakes quickly.

Since learning this, I also apply the philosophy to my everyday life. I call it looking for the small things. By this I mean look for all the small things that make the day much better or that will break the mundane out of the day. This can be many different things to different people. One of my favorites is a simple cup of coffee with my favorite cream in the afternoon. Another is that I always get a kiss and hug from my sweet wife before and after work (my favorite little thing by the way). Today my little thing is working at home with all the windows open, feeling that gentle 75-degree breeze blowing through the house as I write my article. I sit writing or editing my photos as I hear the breeze blowing through the trees and can’t help but think about God’s miracle of nature, it’s one of my favorite things created by God because it puts my mind and soul at peace. It’s pure bliss to be quite honest. This is Will B. saying find the little things in a mundane week.
