Summer is my favorite season but Texas makes it darn near impossible to hold true to that. It’s been hotter than a porcupine in a turnip patch this summer with very little rain, and to top it all off, I still haven’t gotten my above-ground pool to cool off in.

So on to fall with no regrets! Things I like about fall are, cooler temperatures, as long as it doesn’t get too cold. I hate the cold, well, anything below 60 degrees, but the cooler temps allow me to enjoy some things that make me happy. Taking photos of landscapes as they change colors, trees with no leaves. Yes, trees with no leaves. They are so much more interesting without leaves. The changing of brown to gray in the foliage. Although the last couple of years we did see some really nice fall colors, this year we are back to the drought conditions and I am not getting my hopes up to seeing pretty colors in leaves and in the foliage.

Fall is great for the changing of clothing. Probably my favorite part - I get to pull out my leather jacket. I always feel like I am cool again wearing that thing, even though I know I most likely don’t look it. That jacket gives me confidence and an extra pep in my step. There are hoodies of course, who doesn’t like a nice snuggly hoodie? They are just plain comfortable and when we feel antisocial - a little flip of the hood and presto, a little false sense of privacy. I am a clothes-and-shoes kind of dude and have plenty of nice sweaters, jackets and shoes I can only wear during fall and winter and look forward to wearing them. I love my Levi denim jackets and have four at last count, with various degrees of thickness. I added a sheep-lined Levi denim jacket to the group last year and can’t wait to slip it on when winter hits. Fall is definitely boot season. I mean, as Texans, we wear boots year-round but during fall and winter it is actually more comfortable and makes more sense.

On to my favorite part of fall: food and drink. There will be pumpkin spice, yes, I submitted to this flavor over the past few years. It’s quite good and I only enjoy it during fall. I will be cooking plenty of crockpot meals like pot roast, chili, chicken & rice and stews, to name a few. There is something so comforting about having something in the crockpot all day while stuck in the house because of chilly weather. There are so many other things to enjoy about fall. What are some of your traditions for fall? Do you have a favorite jacket or hoodie you only take out for fall? This is Will B. saying, it’s almost hot chocolate at Hometown Coffee & Tea time!
