On not having a hard heart

I have really been enjoying writing and reliving my earliest memories over the summer but felt I needed to take a break to write about something very troubling to me.

I recently have been seeing a rash of very callous posts on social media and not by strangers either, by people I have met and talked with before and some I know only through social media.

The posts have to do with the recent lost sub filled with five or so people who had paid money to see the wreckage of the sunken Titanic.

Many of the posts made were jests or off-hand remarks implying the stupidity of the people or sarcastic remarks of the lost people.

It just really struck my heart a little knowing that these are people I know – and I know that they are good people at heart. But it perplexed me as to why these people had such cold hearts to strangers in a very bad situation, most likely already dead.

Just like most things wrong with society today, the media, government and corporations have been social engineering the masses for decades. Anything we humans see on a regular basis will desensitize us to just about anything if we let it.

When I was very young, I was afraid of scary movies, but after watching them most of my life, I enjoy them and for the most part they are not scary anymore.

This evil has been working against decent people for years, a campaign waged to harden our hearts and desensitize us to things that just are not right.

It is okay to feel sadness or compassion for complete strangers and in fact we should. Let’s not harden our hearts as some have done.

Matthew 13:15 says, “For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes— so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.”

When you let your heart grow cold to strangers or those around you, you will lose something of the good in you a little at a time until one day your heart is hard when it should be open and soft to those around you.

This is Will B saying, love those around you and care for those you don’t know, don’t let your heart grow cold and hard.
