Running a marathon

Not a physical marathon but a spiritual marathon. When it comes to living as Jesus would, we humans sometimes forget we are humans. We are not perfect and need to remember that just as a baby starts off crawling before walking, we as Christians must do the same.

Our walk as Christians is meant to be a marathon not a 40-yard dash. First we learn of Jesus, then we choose to accept that he sacrificed his life to secure our place in the book of life and then we start the long process of learning and growing in the faith through studying the bible, practicing Christian values and making many hard choices. Those choices usually fall under choosing our sinful nature of the flesh or our spiritual nature of walking with God. It’s not easy and it is not meant to be either. No one said, follow Christ and everything will be cake after that. On the contrary, that is when the long marathon of temptations will begin in earnest.

But there is something assuring about knowing as long as you stay on the path following Jesus that no matter the outcome of your life your eternal life is secure. If you think about time on a grand scale, the time we are in these bodies is very miniscule, its really hard to even comprehend just how short our time is here compared to eternity. Why not plan for it with what little time we have? It will not be an easy walk but it will be fulfilling and have the greatest reward at the end.

Colossians 2:6–7: “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” And Deuteronomy 8:6: “Observe the commands of the LORD your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him.” This is a marathon worth running, with the greatest rewards. This is Will B saying, we all will stumble on our journey with Christ. What’s important is to get back up and continue our journey with Christ.
