Sr. Cub Center Chats with Pat Curtis

Our birthday girls for June are Nita Hearne and Tresia Shook. Many wonderful birthday wishes for them!

Two others at the Center hit a big milestone on the 15th. Edward and Sylvia Furr celebrated their 65th anniversary by coming to eat with us during lunchtime. Of course they eat with us every day and we are certainly happy that they do. Those big smiles they sport every day could be the reason for such a long lasting marriage, too. They certainly brighten our days!

A big shout-out to our local police officers who delivered meals last week. The Camps who regularly volunteer for a delivery route took their vacation, but not to fear, those men in blue stepped in to fill that slot. And if you were a nay-sayer thinking that the officers were “after” your neighbor --shame on you! Those are the good guys who have everyone’s safety on their minds, and aren’t afraid to do a few extra deeds to help us out. Thanks to all of you!

Last week I mentioned that the mockingbirds were back in force. This week I saw them doing more than singing. A neighbor’s cat strolled across my lawn with a mockingbird attacking it from behind. It would nip the cat’s striped tail and the cat would quicken his step as he headed for home. I’m supposing said bird was shooing the cat away from its nest. After several fly- bys that cat had enough of bird watching for the day! Birds may be small, but they are mighty when their families are in danger. A bluejay made several dives at my head as I attempted to rescue it’s baby that had fallen from its nest. I retreated in defeat, hoping that a roaming cat wouldn’t see the helpless baby on the ground. I never knew what happened, but hoped for best.

Last week I commented on our local” boy,” Kevin Bullock and what a great talent he is. I had seen his name on the sign as I passed by. When I next saw the sign, there was another guy’s name I hadn’t seen the first time, and I thought I might be in trouble for leaving out Casey Keeter as a local boy who was also talented. I have Keeters as neighbors across the alley and hoped they wouldn’t notice my gaff, so I could make amends. Both Kevin and Casey will take the stage at 6:30 to entertain their hometown folks and , hopefully, me. Please don’t throw rocks at me guys!

The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary. It takes Work to be successful, so do your best, no matter what your job is. Have a great week!
