Sr. Cub Center Chats with Pat Curtis

Some people may dread Monday morning and the “back to work” signal of a beeping alarm clock, but most of us at the Cub Center don’t worry about that anymore. Age does have several things going for it that are positive. Everything we ever wanted as sixteen-year-olds have been realized. We don’t have to work any more; we don’t have to go to school; we have our own car; we have our own abode; we get a retirement check every month (allowance);we have no curfew. Life is good!

Monkey wrenches have a habit of showing up at the most inopportune times as evidenced last week. Two of our good buddies at The Center required ER visits last week. Monkey wrench #1 involved our newest member, James. Seems he still had his appendix, and it didn’t like being attached to him any longer. Bye, bye appendix! Problem solved! Monkey wrench #2 sent our domino buddy, Hubert, to the ER with a couple of issues. He got overnight accommodations and a bunch of tests. Thankfully, both of our buddies required only one night in the hospital. That nurse TLC seems to quicken the recovery time considerably! Thank you to the nurses and doctors for speedily getting our guys back in circulation again!

Last Monday has been renamed; it will be referred to as Mockingbird Monday. Everywhere I looked that day, there were flocks of our state bird. They flew, they perched, they hopped, and thoroughly entertained me with their antics. What a great Monday!

The rain last week was much appreciated, but that lightning got a bit loud! It seems a lightening bolt hit a tree a couple of blocks from me and the resulting BOOM nearly scared my body out of my skin! Apparently that was the second time for that neighbor to experience such a bolt. Wow! What a coincidence!

Accolades to our cooks here at The Center for cooking up some delicious meals for us and for giving us a wider variety of meals. Lip-smacking good! Come join us for great food and conversation!

One of Olney’s own will be providing some music at Tower’s big extravaganza the last week of this month. That multi-talented guy, known as Kevin Bullock, will hit the stage and entertain with both fiddle and voice, I presume. Looking forward to it!

This week try to re-connect with a friend from years gone by. Share memories and happy times; encourage one another. You may be the force that brings that extra sunshine into someone’s life.
