The month of May has been marvelous to us considering the amount of rain that has been either gently falling or robustly pounding our windows. And, nothing can beat the sound of rain on a metal roof. Ahh! Those 7+ inches of rain have revitalized the stock tanks in our area and provided both drinking water and wading facilities for our livestock during the increasingly elevated heat that comes with summer.

With all the different scams on social media, it is wise to be cautious of those e-mails and texts from numbers you don’t recognize. AI (artificial intelligence) is a new plot to get people to open their wallets and fork over their hard-earned money. Anyone who has posted pictures of themselves with verbal messages is at risk for this plot to unfold. Unscrupulous people have been contacting friends and family of such people with videos showing them asking for help. Don’t respond to the message; hang up! Then, call that person, usually a loved one, to check the authenticity of the request. The video looks real and the voice sounds real, but always double- check for your own protection. The shock value often associated with such messages is there to help trap you into complying. Be vigilant!

Another problem arises when you get messages from companies stating that you have won prizes and they need your address to deliver them to you. RED FLAG! Then they say there is a small delivery fee and want your credit card number-- definite RED FLAG! Do not click on the link provided. Report it as spam! Yes, we’d all like “free” gifts, but sometimes they are quite costly “freenot free” scams. If you get a message from a bank about a problem with your account, hang up and call your bank on their listed number to check if the call is legitimate. Do NOT respond to any number or link provided by the message!

Miranda from Angels Care came to encourage us to energize our brains last week. Doing word puzzles, crossword puzzles, and reading helps to knock cobwebs out of our brains. Walking and exercise promote better brain health. Eating more Omega-3-rich foods benefits our health, also. Playing musical instruments helps to keep us sharp, as do writing and socializing. Yes, socializing is good for our brains, and it is also good for our hearts. The daily buzz of conversations at the Center makes us happy and provides some profound and funny tales to provoke chuckles and belly laughs. Laughing is definitely good for our brains! Come join us for a delicious lunch and loads of laughter … it’ll reduce stress levels and boost your brain power!
