Sr. Cub Center Chats with Pat Curtis

Lovely sounds of thunder often announce the beginning of a delightful occurrence in our city … RAIN! Wow, what wonderful moisture fell on this dry land the first weekend of May! 4.5 inches of the wet stuff brought smiles to man and beast alike. Apparently, the second weekend of the month will bring some more much-appreciated rain to us. Yippee! We’ll certainly accept it with glad hearts.

Speaking of glad hearts, the Cub Center attendees have been entertained several times in the last few weeks with song and music on our piano. That much-talented Howard Lee has crooned and played for us a medley of popular songs that have stood the test of time, and we have enjoyed him immensely. Apparently, he plies his trade every weekend at Possum Kingdom but comes to eat with us several times a week. That piano is a magnetic attraction for Howard’s nimble fingers, which are drawn to that keyboard like bees to honey. Thanks to that enjoyable fellow for bringing smiles to our faces and music to our ears! Now we have two men who can entertain us. J.R. Smith has been delighting us with his expertise for several years, especially on birthday party day. But, he also plays some old favorite church hymns which often bring us to sing along. It is so nice to have two guys who can bring joy to us through music! Thanks to you both!

Oh, my! The bar ditches are mega impressive with their masses of blossoms that both amaze and delight us as we drive around the countryside. The pink and white buttercups have replaced the bluebonnets and grape hyacinths that preceded them, but they are all such delightful sights to us. Adding to that amazement is the humble mesquite. Late spring brings those stark bare limbs to life with beautiful green delicate-looking leaves that provide so much lushness to our landscapes. Enjoy the beauty that surrounds us; it is amazing!

Angels Care Home Health did the Bingo session on the 10th and as usual the prize table was almost overflowing! Carlton Hughes warned everyone to leave the package of Snickers alone, but he didn’t have to worry because he was the first to Bingo. With a big smile (or smirk) he gladly snatched his aforementioned prize. Everyone needed big sacks to carry those winnings home! We do love Angels Care!!

We are happy to have Mary Morgan back in our midst. Her cheery smile was certainly missed when she was out with some health problems, but she’s feeling much better, so the smile has returned!

Try to avoid that “bug” that seems intent on visiting everyone at least once. Hopefully, his lifespan has ended. RIP bug!

Hug a friend! That’s the assignment for the week, but know that extra points will be given if you hug more than one!!
