Spring storms got a headstart on the official date for spring last Thursday when severe thunderstorms roamed across Texas. Some areas got some massive hailstones that broke windows in homes and vehicles. Being caught out in such storms can be a frightening experience. I have first-hand experience with such a scenario. My suburban held seven Delta Kappa Gamma members one spring evening as we ventured to our supper meeting at an iconic hotel in Seagraves, Texas. The sky turned dark and tornado sirens started shrieking as women dashed to their respective vehicles to head home. My group quickly loaded, but seconds later massive hailstones shattered my windshield and proceeded to pelt us over and over again. Visibility was shrouded in darkness and relentless rain shared the sky with those high winds and hailstones. Streets quickly flooded as I maneuvered cautiously toward home, floating in a few places before exiting to feel the tires grip the pavement once again. Since I was driving, my job was to calm everyone and get them home safely. Mission accomplished, but it was definitely a harrowing experience!

Thankfully our hail on Thursday was much smaller and driven by less forceful winds. And, we got some much-appreciated moisture!

Several people remarked how beautiful the two planets were that shared the sky with the moon for several days last month, and remarked how amazed they were at the brightness they reflected. Amazement can be just a glance away, so keep those eyes open and attuned to our universe, The Great Milky Way!

The Center has a couple of activities scheduled soon. On March 20, we will have a craft session on making pretty stepping stones for our flower gardens. That sounds like loads of fun so contact Angela if you are interested. ALSO, we will have a bake sale that day. Angela will be at Stewart’s Grocery Store that morning to sell our wares, so venture by to select some tasty treats. We will also take orders beforehand if you have a certain preference. Call the Center to place an order -- and don’t wait until the 19th to order-- time is needed to plan and bake. Cakes, breads, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, candy, etc. could certainly satisfy your sweet (or savory) tooth. We do have some good cooks waiting to hear from you, so call the Center today.

Have you noticed the blooms popping out already? Pear trees look so pretty decked out in their white dainty blossoms and those bushes sporting red pops of color brighten our day. The yellow garb of forsythia puts a little sunshine in our day as well. Dormant bulbs get invigorated by warmer days and push those colorful heads out of the dirt to delight our eyes and noses. Many yards are now covered with masses of little purple blossoms that brave cold, blustery days. Well, actually they may be classified as weeds, but they are Lovely. Take time to enjoy the surprises and beauty during this time of rebirth. Ahh, spring!

Spring and birds go together for sure! Do a little bird-watching and listening. Those tweet-tweet-tweets and chirp-chirp-chirps are such sweet sounds that bring much delight to our ears. Robins, bluejays, doves, and sparrows are around most of the time, but spring will bring us some more jewels in the form of hummingbirds and cardinals. Their bright plumage is often quite dazzling. Keep track of your bird sightings this spring. Yes, write them down; you may be amazed at the wide variety of feathered friends that delight us.

If you know someone who is hurting, whether emotionally or physically, reach out with a sympathetic heart to let them know they are not alone in their journey. No words are required, but your presence and support are. Reach out with a tender hand and don’t be afraid to say, “I love you.”

Enjoy the beauty of springtime; share your love and compassion; have an amazing week!
