Lovely rain pelting down before dawn. Ah, how wonderful!!

Texans seem to love those raindrops any time of the year, but especially after a “dry spell.” Seems that at least one region in this huge state is in need of moisture every week or two. Of course, the season dictates part of that need. Increasing temperatures draw moisture from the land and bodies of water shrivel up to mere puddles. Hopefully, we continue getting those impromptu showers to ensure enough rain falls to water crops and feed our indigenous population of critters. And, we have plenty of wildlife in our area to enjoy. The deer population seems plentiful and healthy due to foraging on green pastures and drinking water from lakes and ponds, but drought-like conditions put them in danger.

Not only do we have those graceful deer to admire, but we also have raccoons, opossums, armadillos, coyotes, bobcats, skunks, rabbits, and a wide array of birds to enjoy in our area. Badgers and cougars sometimes pay a visit as well. Enjoy the diversity of wildlife in our area, they can certainly make you smile at times. Watching protective parents of young birds chase squirrels or cats away from their babies is quite comical as they screech and peck at the intruders who are much larger than themselves.

Many hours of entertainment await us if we take the time to be observant and watch our abundance of wildlife in this area, or simply watch the interaction of our various pets. You will be sure to smile and feel a lighter load on your shoulders.

Thank you, thank you to all of you who came to our Soup-er Bowl Sunday fundraiser! We appreciate our loyal supporters more than you may realize. Your support affirms your confidence in us as we serve this community. And, your partnering with us helps us to reach our goals and support a critical need here in Olney. Again, THANK YOU!

OK, so that wintery, shiveringly cold blast of frigidness that hit us in the face on Thursday made us realize that it is STILL winter. Yes, balmy days did follow that blast, but beware -- winter has not gone for good if we follow the prophesy: thunder in February, snow in April.

Just take each day as it comes and enjoy the blessings that are yours. Smile!

A special thank you to Chief Birbeck and his two cohorts for coming to eat with us on the 16th. The Police Department is so important to our community. They work tirelessly to keep us safe and to educate us about scams and dangers prevalent on the internet. We salute you for a job well done!

Valentine’s is past, and St. Patrick’s Day is coming, so sport your green. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day will follow in May and June, so plan to honor them. July the 4th comes next, so be patriotic! Keep on keeping on!
