Putting my foot in it

Putting my foot in it

Poet Robert Burns said it best, “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” This is what went through my mind when I received a reply from a Facebook post in which I was just trying to offer support.

A simple offer of prayers to all involved in a bad situation was somehow taken the wrong way. I am one of the most positive people you will meet and always do my best to offer support, or a positive outlook, in any situation. In part because I try to be as Christ-like as possible, even though I fall so very short on a daily basis, and in part because I just think it is good manners. I believe good manners, a positive outlook and common courtesy are three of the most important things in life to practice every day.

It seems most will offer prayers for the sick, the downtrodden and the victims of senseless crime or bad situations and right we should pray for this situation. Sometimes we, or I forget that those in the darkest times in their lives also need our prayers, more so I believe. I am not saying someone should not be punished for a crime or bad behavior. Everyone should be held accountable for their actions, good or bad. I have fallen short in the eyes of the Lord and only through God’s grace was I forgiven. Others deserve the same forgiveness and prayers.

So, it seems even with the best laid plans things can go sideways very quickly when intentions are taken the wrong way. Even when things go wrong, I will never let it deter me from offering aid or support to others. The same with a positive attitude. Many times, I leave the house filled with love in my heart and plans to be the positive influence in any given situation, only to be met with much resistance, even turning my day negative briefly; only briefly though.

There is so many wonderful things in an ordinary day to be negative for too long. Something I learned a long time ago while going through a rough spot in life when I thought all the world was against me is, no one can make you feel any certain way. We control how we feel. We choose to be mad, sad, happy or any number of feelings.

This is Will B. saying, don’t let someone hijack your good day, you’re in control of your day!
