Publisher’s Points to Ponder: Using Your Platform to Fulfill Your Purpose

“The graveyard is the richest place on the surface of the earth because there you will see buried companies that were never started, inventions that were never made, bestselling books that were never written, masterpieces that were never painted, ideas that were not harnessed, and songs that were not sung. The greatest treasure of untapped potential is buried in the cemetery.” --Dr. Myles Munroe

Have you thought about purpose lately? Precisely, your purpose in life—the reason God created you? I believe that God created us with a purpose in mind as stated in Jerimiah 29:11—”For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Some of us realize our purpose but struggle with understanding our full potential, while others leave Earth without fulfilling their God-given purpose. In his book “The Pursuit of Purpose,” Dr. Myles Munroe said that purpose is the key to life, and without purpose, life has no meaning. He concluded, “Without knowledge of purpose, life becomes an endless string of activities with little or no significance.” I concur with Munroe’s belief that “purpose gives birth to hope and instills the passion to act.”—And this passion is evident in Olney as citizens, churches and businesses collaborate to build a stronger community.

If you are trying to discover your purpose, consider using your platform to make a difference, like the servant-leaders in our community. I recently had the privilege of talking to Dustin Hudson, with Olney Police Department, who shared how he spreads the good news while working. He purchased wristbands that contain numbers that lead to Scriptures if the receiver chooses to learn more about Christ. His subtle approach impacts the lives of the people who may need guidance. Dustin said in some cases, those wristbands lead to open dialogue that allows him to impart words of wisdom and encouragement. Dustin has found a creative way to use his platform to express God’s love within his circle of influence.

While conversing with Kristy Nantz, the assistant director of the Refuge, she shared that they believe that what they are doing at the Refuge is what God has called them to do. The staff at the Refuge stand on the belief that the Gospel saves lives, so they engage in servant-leadership to strengthen the community. Kristy reminded me that businesses and people in the community do so much behind closed doors that we don’t see; she said, “It’s like the hands and feet of Christ, we all have different roles. With everyone in the community doing their part is what makes our community right.”

I am inspired by the actions of the people in Olney who are purpose-driven within their different circles of influence. I am blessed to be able to use the opportunity given to me to share stories that uplift, inspire and serve as a call to action for positive change within the community. So, I encourage you to continue what you are doing to make our community a better place. Please share your stories, acts of kindness and acknowledgments with us on Facebook or Twitter, letters to the editor, or stop by 213 E. Main Street in Olney.
