Publisher’s Points to Ponder: Celebrating Women’s History Month throughout March

The month of March is dedicated to celebrating National Women’s History Month, which the U.S. has recognized since 1987. While we celebrate women’s accomplishments from all walks of life, the centralized theme for 2021 focuses on politics. It is titled “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced.”

An authoritative source for national celebrations emphasizes the importance of celebrating Women’s History Month, stating, “We celebrate to recognize the strength and power of women to inspire future generations.”

On a local level, please join Olney Enterprise in acknowledging women’s accomplishments in our immediate community. Let the women in our community and our families know that their voice matters and is appreciated.

In 1981, Sandra Day O’Connor was the first woman appointed to the United States Supreme Court. In 1983, Sally Ride was the first woman launched into space. In 1987, Aretha Franklin was the first woman elected to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. More recently, in 2016, Hilary Clinton was the first woman nominated for President of the United States at the DNC.
