How do you describe thunder? A boom? A crack of thunder? A clap of thunder? A growling thunder roll? A gentle rumble? My favorite is the ‘tater wagon’ spillage thunder, that series of bumpety bumps that rumbles on and on. Maybe it’s because my dad always said, “the tater wagon just fell over,” whenever one of those rumbles took place. We have heard a symphony of thunder rolls these past couple of weeks, and those sounds of orchestrations have delighted our very cores, our very souls! Thank you Lord for blessing us; we are so grateful!

A person at The Center who is a big help to everyone is Linda Phillips. Her roles vary as each day presents itself. She answers the phone, she sometimes helps in the kitchen if one of the regular cooks is out, she takes care of getting the paperwork and money ready each day, she then tabulates the information and enters that into the computer. Some days she delivers a route of our Mealson- Wheels if one of the regular people can’t be there that day. She also keeps an eye on our thermostats to help save expenses on our cooling/heating bills. She is one handy person to have around! Besides that, she always has a smile on her face as she greets us each morning! If you see Linda, give her a pat on the back for watching after us at The Center, or at least thank her for a job well done!

I will strive to highlight a worker at The Center each week, so tune in next week to find out the next person who will be in the spotlight.

Well, September made it, or should I say, it washed in. Linda gave me list of upcoming September honorees, so here they’re are: Pat Curtis - 3; LaVerne Woods - 10; Wanda McDaniel - 11; Edward Furr- 25; Manuel Garcia - 26. Remember that we celebrate our birthday bunch on the last Thursday of the month, so come join us that day to help us celebrate and to eat a piece of cake with us. Come eat with us, help us sing, enjoy the fellowship and laughter, AND eat some cake!

September 8th will be “TEXOMA GIVES” day at The Center, so come early and stay late! Coffee and donuts beginning at 6:00 a.m., and for you sleepy heads- there is a 6 o’clock in the MORNING! BINGO begins at 10:00, with prizes for the winners. Random drawings will be held throughout the day, so be here or be square and miss your chance for a “Surprise” !! A painting class will start at 1:00 p.m., so register for that limited class beforehand. Call The Center to register. Come eat with us at noon and then stay for painting or just visit- be warned... We expect a bunch of smiles and laughter from you.

Matching money has been donated to The Center, so we encourage everyone to call in on the 8th to make a donation for The Olney Senior Cub Center so we can double that money. You can even call Angela here at The Center or stop by to deliver a matching donation and she will notify “TEXOMA GIVES.” THANKS beforehand for being generous with us as we serve meals to those who might otherwise not have a hot meal each weekday.

We appreciate you for your prior commitment to us and hope you will continue on this journey with us.

Be forgiving, be grateful for what you have, be friendly, be caring, show kindness to everyone, and do so with an earto- ear smile. You will definitely ‘make someone’s day.’ Have a super first week of September and enjoy the cooler weather.
