Rain, rain, please come again!! Last week I experienced three downpours in a two-day span, unfortunately none were in Olney! Is there a big bubble over Olney? What gives? Seems like the rain clouds split when they get near and then go by on either side of us. This phenomenon is not new to me - in far west Texas this was a common occurrence. We always seemed to be on the ‘dry line’ which is weatherman talk for, “you’re not gonna get any rain because it’s going to the east of you.” And, it did! Time and time again!! We lost lots of evergreen trees during one of those ‘dry line’ episodes, which caused much concern at the time. But, it did eventually rain; a bit late to save all those trees. Hopefully rain will come soon to give life again to fields and lawns and brighten our outlook on the future. Maybe the moisture is being saved for massive snowfall this winter. Only time will tell, and since we can’t control time, it is a waiting game for us. Keep faith - it WILL come!

Wow, we made a haul at the food bank last week. Lots of goodies came via David Ickert’s pickup on Thursday, since he volunteered to so fetch whatever they offered. Then Christi had to scramble to find storage space for everything. What a terrific dilemma to have! The fresh cantelope was sweet and delicious! Ahh! We are so very grateful for all donated goods; it certainly helps us financially, especially with the price increases we are experiencing at this time. Feeding over 100 people per day is a big responsibility and those “free” items are a great help to provide nutritious meals for seniors and others in need in our community. We are dedicated to the task of supplying meals and doing wellness checks for our clients.

Anyone can come to eat with us at the Center. Whether young or old, you are invited to come eat with us and make new friends in the process.

Well, school has started! Lots of excitement this week as kids lugged their backpacks loaded with back-to-school supplies to those waiting classrooms. The teachers have been preparing for the influx of those warm bodies of humanity for several weeks now, and are anxious to greet their new students. We wish all school personnel a wonderful productive year and enjoyment as they teach Olney’s youth. We also wish for the students to be motivated and filled with excitement as they learn this year and prepare to one day make decisions to benefit society. Everyone have a great year!

Friends. A word full of love and emotions. Someone who accepts you for who you are with no motive to change you, is a friend indeed. Friends are important because we are social people in need of acceptance; we need one another. I am personally extremely grateful for the wonderful friends I have made at the Center. In the heat of the day they will come to my rescue if I have a flat tire or any emergency at all. I am so blessed! Come join me and share these friends with me. You, too, will be blessed!!

Be extra cautious while driving when kids are going to or coming from school. Respect the crossing guards who are helping students to safely cross busy streets. Be patient. Be kind. Be grateful for the people who take time out of their day to ensure the safety of our kids.
