My Nickel’s Worth

Video Games

This is not something I talk about often, but I love to play video games. When I was just six years old, my parents got me a PlayStation 2 for Christmas—and I have been playing ever since. I played a lot of video games when I was in junior high, high school, and some in college…depending on how busy I was that day or that week.

I grew up playing sports video games---ncaa college football, Madden, NBA 2K, and MLB the Show. But as I got older, I started to play third person and first-person video games. My friends and I played in college and it was a fun thing to do when we have some free time—but through video games, I have met people that live all across the country and around the world that play the game. I don’t know them in person, I don’t know what they look like, but we play video games together and discuss all aspects of our lives.

It’s so funny to think that I can play video games with someone and talk to them about sports, politics, tv shows, movies, etc…while at the same time, they live in a completely different part of the country. I have online friends from Illinois, Michigan, Florida, and Connecticut. It really shows how huge the country and the world are, but most importantly, I am able to discuss Christianity and my faith with them. I don’t play all the time—maybe once every few weeks, but it so cool that I can potentially have an impact on people that I may never even meet in person. I do still have friends that I play games with that I am good friends with in person, so we will play together with these people.

It shows me that in almost anything we do we can have an impact on people. I encourage everyone to do the same in a hobby you have, or something you do with others in your spare time—be active in people’s lives, build relationships, and be able to have a positive influence in all that you do and everyone you know.
