My Nickel’s Worth

My Nickel’s Worth

Thanksgiving is finally here in the year 2020, and what a year it has been. Wow. Is it over yet? But seriously, even in a year that has included a pandemic, we have so much for which to be thankful. In some ways, this year has lasted a lifetime for me, but in other ways, it has flown by. I recall getting engaged this time last year, thinking our wedding would be a long time away--it is about four weeks away now! That is unreal to me.

Thanksgiving gives me a chance every year to reflect on the year and even through the chaos, I am so thankful for the people and things that are in my life.

In times like these, you get to see who is there for you regardless of the circumstances. For me, my family and friends have been there through every trial and celebration, and I am beyond thankful for them. We are living in unprecedented times, but I am thankful for God’s continuous love for my family. Through it all, God remains in control and is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Even if we weren’t able to meet in person for church at some points this year, I am thankful that we were still able to watch from home, and we still remained close with our church family.

I am thankful that we can live in a country where we can watch a worship service on our phones and computers, while freely being able to worship God. This is a luxury that many countries do not have—especially at this point in history. This year has been filled with crazy twists and turns, but I am focusing on the good and looking at the positive. For example, I was able to spend so much time with my fiancée and my family. When the pandemic began in March, my sister was still in her senior year of high school, and even though she was unable to have many events that were planned for her, we were all thankful to be able to be together and spend time together before she went to college. This year is the perfect example of how much we have to be thankful for, even in the year of 2020. I thank God for the continuous blessings he has given me, and the people who have been placed in my life for this season of life.
