My Nickel’s Worth

Showing kindness is something we are all challenged to do. But do we actually take the time to be kind?  Have you ever stopped to think about how you could show kindness?  Last week, someone was very kind to my sister...just a number of small gestures, but they added up to really make her smile.

This made me think about how many encounters we have each day with people and how many missed opportunities we have to show kindness.  Maybe it is holding a door open for someone. Perhaps it is mowing the elderly neighbor’s yard while mowing your own.  Do you think about the people serving you at a restaurant? Learn their names. Show kindness. Perhaps leave an extra tip.

If you attend church, why not greet people you don’t know and introduce yourself.  We all know people who need a word of kindness.  Maybe thank someone for a thankless job. If everyone took the time to show kindness, imagine the difference it would make in our world.  It is great to talk about showing kindness, but in this case, actions do speak louder than words.
