The House of Mercy mourns the loss of a previous resident

Melissa VanHoose passed away this past week, VanHoose had previously lived in the HOME before getting her own apartment in Feb. of 2019.

Melissa continued to go to the HOME for classes for a few weeks and started making friends with her neighbors that she loved to talk with and was always eager to help anyone that needed her help.

With guidance, she was able to keep her bills paid and apartment clean on her own. She would attend church and had recently rededicated her life to Christ at the First Methodist Church in Olney.

She had several friends but a couple in particular, Bill and Wanda Ballard, was who she hung around most. If a neighbor needed help carrying in something or even if one was sick, Melisa was the girl they knew they could count on. She would cook and take a meal to the ones she knew were sick.

She always wanted to give back to the House of Mercy (HOME). She would come to classes when she had the time. She made it to most of the fundraisers and helped in anyway we needed her. Melissa always had a smile on her face and was truly loving life. Melissa will always be loved and missed.

“The residents here at the House of Mercy feel like they have lost a family member,” Preston Crow said.

Her memorial service will be held at Cokers funeral home in Jacksboro, Tx on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
