An Engagement to Remember

My Nickel’s Worth

My mom always says that when you meet the person you are supposed to love forever, they feel like “home” to you.  I didn’t really understand what she meant until I met Whitnie.

We were college students, and she called and asked me out. She had known me around campus for a couple of years, and I guess she got tired of waiting for me to ask her out.  I didn’t realize this petite, fun-loving cinnamon-haired brainiac was even interested in me until she invited me to meet her at Braum’s. Whitnie was so easy to talk to, and we had so many shared interests.  We talked about our faith, politics, our families, and even sports--and it just felt like I had known her for years. She felt like “home.”

Last Thursday, I drove to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I met Whitnie at Woodward Park under the guise of taking pictures with her friends before the Med Gala. The Med Gala is a formal for medical school students, and Whitnie just completed her first semester of medical school.  I was nervous all day, but when she arrived, all of my fears melted away, and I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.

I am so thankful for Whitnie.  She loves me unconditionally, laughs at my goofy jokes, and inspires me every day.  I had to go on a lot of dates and endure many relationships to finally meet the girl of my dreams, and I am so glad I waited on the perfect one for me.

We plan to be married next December, and I am so excited to spend the rest of my life with her.  So, if you are wanting to find the right person for you, just pray about it and let God do the rest.  If a person doesn’t celebrate who you are right away, they are not the person for you.  When you find the right person, they love you in spite of your faults and encourage you to be the best version of yourself possible.

I am glad I found Whitnie, or rather, I am glad Whitnie found me.  She was definitely worth the wait.
