DEVOTIONAL

“So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.” Deuteronomy 34:5NASBS

Moses, the man of God, was the embodiment of stature, strength, wisdom, and hope to the nation of Israel. The Lord demonstrated His power through him by delivering all of Israel from Egyptian Slavery, while all together destroying the Egyptian army, the most feared army of that time. The Lord also showed him favor by delivering the great Amorite kings, Og and Sihon, into his hands, capturing 60 fortified cities. With The Lord by his side, he was more than a conqueror of his day. But like everyone else, this mighty man of valor would have to cross the valley of the shadow of death. Although Moses had seen the very power of God displayed through his faith as no other man in holy scripture, his greatest triumph still awaited him. Moses, the man who stood in the very presence of God, like all of us, would not escape the grave. He must face the most feared enemy of all men, death. He must stare the Grim Reaper in his face, he must hear the mighty Death Angel call his name, he must feel the power of death take hold of his body leaving it lifeless. Moses, must one last time trust The Lord in his last battle, believing that He is able to raise the dead.

So The Lord told Moses, “Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab opposite Jericho, and look at the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel for a possession. Then die on the mountain where you ascend, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people.” So with his aged legs, Moses began to climb up to the pinnacle of the mountain so that he might cast his eyes upon the land the Lord had promised the nation. It is there that the greatest miracle of all would take place in his life, for upon his death, he would enter into his eternal resting place in the presence of His Lord. Moses was delivered from this decaying body of death and could say as with the Apostle Paul, “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?” Though Moses, in his fleshly body, did not enter into the land flowing with milk and honey, his eyes beheld the glory of the Ancient of Days, The Holy One of Israel, The Lord of all of creation. What a glorious victory this was for Moses, and what a great encouragement it holds for every believer today, for we too must stare death in its face.

Moses conquered death through faith in The Lord, by believing in His promise, that there would be a day when He would send a redeemer to atone for his sins. Well, that redeemer come a thousand years later in the person of Jesus Christ, Who being fully God, conquered sin, death, and the grave. Moses did see His day and stood in His presence on the Mount of Transfiguration, when Jesus was glorified by His Father. Those who are in Christ today do not fear the fatal blow of death. Death will be the funeral of all our evils, all of our struggles, all of our sicknesses, and the resurrection of our joys. Who with physical eyes can truly know what awaits us after death, for as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.”

Fear not child of The Living God, for He is able to do far more that we could ever imagine, for you to, will one day see the face of The Lord Jesus.
