Destination: Olney, TX
Life seems to have a way of putting us in situations that we would never do to ourselves. I am not sure that I would have ever picked Olney as the place to settle in and call home. But, regardless of the twist and turns of life, we have arrived at our destination, Olney, Texas.
Throughout the last two decades, well almost two decades, home has been in the city. I am not just talking about the city limits in rural Texas. No! Home has been in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and the greater San Antonio area. While the city offers some enjoyable times and many conveniences that aren’t available elsewhere, there is nothing like a small hometown.
There are certainly some things in Olney that I truly appreciate. The first is friendliness. Everyone seems nice and friendly. Everyone speaks. It does not matter if they know you or not. It is like you have lived here all your life. Thanks, Olney, for being friendly people and welcoming me as part of your own.
The second thing that comes to mind is kindness. After being here for about a year, I am truly impressed with the kind nature of our town. As I have been out and about, I see a kind-heartedness that you just don’t find in the city. I was blown away back in February during our once-in-a-lifetime week of Arctic winter weather the number of times I witnessed kindness in action. It makes me proud to be part of such a wonderful kindhearted community.
A final thought on what makes Olney great is the sense of community. Everywhere you go, you find Olney’s pride. There just seems to be a deep sense of trying to make and keep our town the absolute best it can be. I have heard many conversations that focus on improving our town in some way or another.
This is a nice place to live, and it shows. I am glad that I can be a part of our town growing, working together to make Olney the best it can be, and growing the same sense of community that I have grown to admire.
My destination was Olney. My home is Olney! My future is Olney. I am privileged to settle here away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a life that is more relaxed, with no traffic, and knowing that I live in a remarkable town.
I am truly blessed to call Olney my home!
