A big hearty “Thank You” goes to Howard Lee for entertaining us royally on the Soup-er Bowl Sunday fundraiser event! He lugged his banjo and guitar into the Center, moved the piano to a good spot for him, located a stool, and got everything plugged in before the doors opened for diners. Wow! What a great entertainer! He expertly played all three instruments, accompanying himself as he crooned song after song from years past to present, from mellow and slow to lively and fast. Outbursts of applause conveyed his audience’s appreciation for his skillful renditions of their favorite melodies. We appreciate him for volunteering to do this wonderful performance for us out of the goodness of his heart. He was definitely a huge success!

Our patrons left smiling with music in their hearts and tummies full of delicious stew, cornbread , and either cobbler or ‘Scrumptious’ for dessert. Thanks to all who came to support us with this fundraiser!

The winner of Judy Gandy’s famous Italian Cream Cake was Johnny Moore, who promptly came to claim it after he got the call. Ironically, Judy Gandy won the prize for the Football Guessing Contest- a delightfully smelling Chocolate Cake. There was actually a three way tie for the guessing game. Mitch Camp, Kelly McCorkle, and Judy Gandy all submitted a guess of 1500, so we had a tie-breaker which Judy won. Lady Luck was looking down on her with favor that day! The actual number of footballs was 1522!

I want to apologize to Dan Winingham for misspelling his last name the other day. Names are important to us so I should have double checked. To make amends I’ll treat you to a meal at the Center.

And, thanks again for mending our fence and cutting down those trees. Job well done!

With sadness I am relaying the news that we lost another friend at the Center: Ron Harbaugh passed away on Thursday, Feb. 17. We lost a sweet friend and mourn his loss. Condolences to his family.

Those geese I saw flying north last week were probably just going to Wichita Falls. Seeing them walking around in the streets on the 17th surprised me, but also delighted me to see those majestic birds up close and personal. Speaking of that day, that frigid gusting wind made it harder for any birds to fly. This old bird had trouble driving in it, too! Happy Birthday Pat

Happy Birthday Patsy Moore, or at this paper’s printing, a belated birthday. Hope you had a terrific day on Monday the 21st.

We can’t keep trouble from coming, but we don’t have to give it a chair to sit in.

Smile and spread Sunshine!
