I have been appeased; I finally was exposed to snow last Wednesday night. Lovely big fat flakes of fluffy snow glided down for a few minutes to delight the eye but quickly disappeared. It was enough to delight my need for the beauty of nature to overwhelm, so now I can wait for next winter for more. Snow! The memory raced through my mind of standing in a snowstorm with tongue extended to catch those beautiful bits of ice crystals as the flakes floated gracefully down. Better still, the memory of eating snow ice cream that my mother concocted from that white stuff- pure joy by the spoonful! Kids remember the “fun” stuff and have little concern about possible problems, but with age comes the realization that snow can cause slips and falls- not a good scenario for older adults! So, be extremely careful if you must get out during inclement weather. Viewing a beautiful winterscene is best done through your window from within the warm, toasty house.

Last week we saw a spike in attendance at Cub Center. Laughter filled the room as people reunited with old friends and shared memories from the past. Dan Willingham sat across the table from Wade Fikes, and tales of bird hunting and lumber yards were recounted back and forth, a regular tennis match of memories! What a joy to watch them become animated and excited as they jolted each other’s memories. Great friendships revisited!

Wendell Flanders joined Edward Furr and Bob Dillard at their table, and the talking and teasing began. “Do you remember…?” and “Whatever happened to …?” could be heard from their conversations as they joked and laughed.

Ron Harbaugh, who has been dealing with health problems lately, came to the Center a couple of times last week and had long visits with his buddies. So good to see him out and doing better. On Monday, Carlton Hughes and Bill Ballard brought their smiling faces to our group and shared their humor while eating a good meal.

Watching friends talking nonstop and laughing with each other brings so much joy to our hearts. At the end of our day, we leave happy and inspired by the love freely shown here among the clientele. If you’d like to be cheered up and feel good, come eat and visit with us!

SOUP-ER BOWL SUNDAY is closing in on us, so don’t forget to be present for that feast! First Responders will be eating courtesy of members of the Church of Christ who wish to show their appreciation for your dedication and willingness to serve. To add a little fun, we will have a “GUESSING JAR” to test your guessing ability. Prize to be awarded to the winner! Cake by Pat C.

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become your character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. KEEP SMILING!
