Wow! What a great turnout for the pancake breakfast Oct. 16! Wave after wave of hungry people streamed through our doors to eat a great breakfast and visit with other patrons. The citizens of Olney are a caring group of wonderful people—give yourselves a big pat on the back. Thank you so much for your support and stay hungry—we will have other meals to share.

A special thanks to the Larry/Judy Gandy duo for their dedication to Cub Center for many, many years. They delivered Mealon-Wheels for years until COVID hit. Judy baked an Italian Cream Cake for the much-anticipated cake raffle, and what a success that was! That donation from her added $301 to our coffers! (Kade Betts won the cake.) And don’t forget Larry— he sold the most tickets (as usual) for the meal. Who can resist that huge smile of his? They are such sweet people deserving special recognition, so when you see them, give them a pat on the back, a hug, a handshake, or a knuckle bump just to show them how much they are appreciated.

Shop Olney! There is a reason for that. Our businesses support our community and activities. 3-T Meats and Stewart’s Grocery donated the meat for our pancake breakfast. What a generous and much-appreciated blessing that was—THANK YOU! Thanks to all the businesses who bought tickets and made donations; your crowns have a few more diamonds.

Tuesday, Oct. 19, brought a delightful surprise. Early that morning, when I opened my back door, my trees were filled with a flock of the most beautiful red cardinals. Their wings sparkled with a brilliant red as the sun’s rays bounced off them as they flew from tree to tree. A mesmerizing sight that held me spellbound! Such beauty—what a start to my day!

The lone blue jay watched the grand display with me, and I think he was as awed as I was. I’m so happy that cardinals don’t migrate, and I hope they visit many times - maybe I’ll get a Christmas card view if it ever snows this winter.

UPCOMING EVENTS TO REMEMBER:

Halloween, Nov. 6- fall back, Nov.7 - end of daylight saving time, Nov. 11 - honor Vets-live music, lunch, program. Thanksgiving is coming-yum!

Remember to see beauty all-around you this week. Smile every day and count your blessings.
