What is old man winter doing? It seems he is taking a nap and allowing warm weather to hang around. He will wake up before long, but hopefully, he will not plunge us into the frigid blackout weather we had last year.

I’d like to nominate a very special man for the outstanding citizen of December. Many years ago, 20 years or so, Dan Willingham built a lovely metal fence on the property line of the Cub Center. Last week that very same man came with tools and saw in hand to replace two fence panels and cut the pesky trees down that were damaging the fence. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness, Dan! You have been a blessing to us.

Remember to jot Dec. 30 on your calendar! That is the day that we will be honoring Jerri Ford’s retirement as director of The Center. If anyone wishes to eat with us that day, please call ahead to reserve a meal to honor the 32 years of service she has dedicated to us.

OKAY, I will tell you. Do you want to know the location of Stephen F. Austin’s tree; it is inside the fence of Olney Junior High School. A man who had a great fascination with Stephen F.’s gathered acorns from his tree, grew the trees and delivered them to schools all over the state.

Add another birthday to December’s list. The new Director, Angela Lockard, will celebrate her special day on the 30th. I wish her a Happy birthday!

Quip for the week:

A blot upon the paper is surely out of place, but it isn’t half as ugly as a frown upon the face.

Remember to smile; it will brighten the day of some and make others wonder what you are up to!

Let’s keep ‘em guessing!!
