Frosty-breath weather kept most of us snuggled up inside last week and the center closed for three days, but Friday’s thaw saw several brave the chill and make it to eat and play 42. We were all happy to get out from being cooped up and to see friendly faces. I’m pretty sure that won’t be the last winter blast we have this March and April; I’ve seen deep snow before in mid-April. Just keep your coats, sweaters, and jackets handy for whatever comes next.

I’m sure you’ve heard that almonds are good for you and have popped a few of those tasty treats into your mouth yourself. California has many groves of almond trees, which require pollination to yield large profits for the owners. Therefore, truckloads of beehives are transported to the area for that purpose. Now these hives are going high-tech. Many have been outfitted with GPS technology and even have motion sensor cameras trained on them. Why? Because thievery has become a huge problem. Those bees are essential for bumper crops and criminals want to cash in on some of those profits by leasing stolen hives for the big prices the farmers are willing to pay. Who would have thought that the time would come when bee hives would be targets for criminals? Strange world we live in, indeed.

Several of our clientele have birthdays this month, so be sure to give them a shoutout when you see them. Judy Gandy starts the list off on March 1, and is joined by Ben Kee on that same day. March 2 is Pete Shauwer’s birthday and Mary Castro will celebrate her special day on the 4th. Kyle Patton’s big day is on the 10th. Happy Birthday to all of you and hope your day is extra special!

If you’ve noticed, shelves in stores are full of Easter items. Plastic eggs, peanut butter filled eggs, chocolate eggs, jellybean eggs, malted milk ball eggs, plush toys in the form of chickens and rabbits, and decorations for tablescapes. But, the true meaning of Easter seems to be left out. So many of our religious holidays have been horribly commercialized; hopefully parents are educating their children about the true meanings.

St. Patrick’s Day is coming soon, so get something green to wear or face the prospect of a pinch. Just think, if we had a river running through town, we could follow Chicago’s example and dye it green-or not! I like green, but I prefer the greens displayed by nature.

Have a super fantastic week!
