City Cuts Water Supply after Leak

On the morning of Tuesday Sept. 22 a massive water leak caused the city of Olney to go without water for several hours in an effort to conserve the amount of water wasted.

“We had a 12 inch water main break on the north side of town that affected our water pressure. In an effort to conserve our water, we cut the supply to the entire city. The team is working diligently to fix the water line. We expect to issue a water boil notice as soon as water is restored. We understand water interruption is very frustrating to the local businesses and citizens and we appreciate our community’s support and patience,” said Neal Welch Olney City Administrator.

Due to the water main break, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality had required the City of Olney to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption, escpecially those with weakened immune systems, children and the elderly.

According to health.ny.gov a boil water notice is issued by water utilities or health agencies as a precaution to protect consumers from drinking water that may have been contaminated with disease causing organisms.

The boil water notice lasted about 48 hours before it was lifted at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.
