Olney Senior Cub Center

So much news reporting has been centered around the British royals since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and Facebook has exploded with pictures of her and her heirs. Unfortunately, much speculation about the lives of her sons and grandsons is just that - speculation. Beware of believing everything you see or hear on the internet or Facebook. People’s opinions are not always the truth, so be cautious.

I actually had a visit from a monarch last week, but it didn’t make the news. As you probably guessed, I am not referring to a reigning monarch of some country, but a beautiful butterfly who fluttered by to delight these eyes of mine. It was probably getting ready to make its journey to its winter vacation farther south in warmer climes, but I am so grateful that it came to say goodbye. As a child, I often wished I could join them on their flitting about, but I never grew wings, so I have to enjoy the beauty and joy they bring visually. Bon voyage, my beautiful friend.

Wow! What a gathering we had last Thursday when the Center opened its doors to host the Olney Chamber of Commerce meeting! Smiles, handshakes, and laughter filled our dining room as people filed in to meet and greet friends before eating and having their meeting. Loving, friendly people make up the population of this grand place called Olney. What a pleasure to meet many new faces and enjoy the benefits of moving to this unique community! A huge thank you to the Chamber for paying us the honor of being your host and we hope you will come again and again!

Well, when you read this, we will be a week into October. Time really does fly by. One of our fundraiser activities - THE FALL PANCAKE BREAKFAST- will happen on the 15th of this month. The mention of breakfast sends the salivary glands into overtime because breakfast is my favorite meal! Purchase your tickets ahead or pay at the door, but do come to eat with us. Tantalize those tastebuds!! A hearty breakfast for $7 is a great deal! See you October 15, 2022 !

Our September birthday party was last Thursday honoring Wanda McDaniel, Pat Curtis, Edward Furr, and Celia Aleman. Happy Birthday to you!!

Can you believe that Christmas decorations are filling shelves already?? Of course Halloween costumes, decorations, and candy are everywhere, and a few Thanksgiving displays out, but it’s almost three months until Christmas. Let us enjoy Halloween and Thanksgiving before bombarding us with all the commercialization associated with Christmas. I am opinionated! Personally I can hardly wait for turkey and DRESSING at Thanksgiving. I guess Thanksgiving is more of an adult holiday and Christmas is a child holiday?? Whatever! As long as I get turkey and dressing both times, I’ll be satisfied!

Bake a cake for someone, send someone a cheerful card, buy someone a meal, listen to someone talk of bygone days, give someone a hug, but always be kind. Kindness costs nothing, yet it is a priceless gift. Gift someone this week!
