Shame On Him Who Evil Thinks

It was Queen Elizabeth who scribbled on the window pane with her ring, “Honi soit qui mal y pense,” meaning, “Shame on him who evil thinks.” And the same can be well applied to many things in this life. A great many things we run in contact with every day of our lives are made evil out of which of themselves are not evil. A game of billiards, pool, or cards may be played at home or anywhere else and be entirely harmless and of innocent amusement. It is not the games themselves which are evil, but the purposes they are sometimes put to by people of evil minds.

75 Years Ago – June 29, 1945

Boone’s Store Has Two New Employees

W.C. Boone, manager of Boone’s Store, has hired two employees for clerical work in the store. They are Mrs. Marquita De-Long and Miss Bernice Sutton. Mrs. DeLong is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Lee and has been working for two weeks. Her husband, Pvt. Vernon L. DeLong, is stationed at Camp Hood. The other new employee, Miss Bernice Sutton, has been working three weeks, and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Sutton of Megargel.

Eight Attend Horse Congress

Eight Young County 4-H Horsemen participated in the 1970 National Youth Horse Congress, according to Don King, Assistant County Agricultural Agent. The Congress took place at the State Fair Grounds in Dallas, June 25-27. Cathy York of Olney, Jack Neal of Newcastle and Ronnie Norman of Graham were among nearly 150 contestants in the all Breed Youth Show.

Texas Cowboy Reunion Will Be Honored

Texas Cowboy Rodeo and Reunion in Stamford will be honored by the American Quarter Horse Association as being the site of the first Quarter Horse Show. The first show was held in 1940 to determine who owned the best horses in the area. The dedication of the Historical Marker will be Friday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at the John Selmon Memorial Gallery on the Texas Cowboy Reunion Rodeo Grounds.
