Will B. Over sharing

With all the Corona virus mess going on just like most I have been glued to Facebook and social media.

I have really been enjoying seeing everyone’s posts of virtual field trips, homeschool science projects and general shenanigan’s everyone is up to.

But there is a negative side as well. Oversharing. There I said it. I am sure a lot think it from time to time. For me I really enjoy when people share personal memories of what is going on in their lives. At the risk of ruffling a few feathers I will say that some people just get carried away with 10, 20 and even higher of post re-shares bombarding everyone’s feed with the same regurgitated political, comedy and trending post’s that you end up seeing on 10 or 20 other people’s reposts . It is like sifting through haystack for the needle that you know is there somewhere if you could just push through all the hay.

I know what you are thinking. Why not just not follow some of the repostaholics? Well the answer is simple I still enjoy the post that contain genuine life events or memories. I would never let someone personally know that the constant posting of generic reposts make it very hard to get to the real posts about someone’s life. That would just be rude. So will continue to sift through the clutter to get to all those precious and amazing and even mundane real-life happenings of the people I follow on social media.

Now the one thing that does get my goat in the creek more than not is the posts about something someone wants changed. Like posting on Facebook is somehow the official way to get something changed. At least half the posts I see complaining about something that needs changing could have been handled with a simple phone call the same with questions being asked. Although I will say in most cases asking a question is far better sometimes on social media if you would like a quick response.

So, the number one thing on my list of things that get my donkey in a ditch quick are the ones who complain about a business on Facebook. The first question that is asked most of the time is “did you contact the business about the issue?” and 90 percent of the time the answer will be a resounding NO!

The best way for a business to make improvements is by direct contact by their customers. How can they fix an issue if people just blast it on Facebook without even giving the business a chance to fix the issue? I am in contact with small businesses on a regular basis and every one of them has told me they would bend over backwards to fix a problem a customer has had. Most of these blast on social media are generally about restaurants. When it comes to small towns and small business every customer count’s and if we want our local businesses to thrive every problem should be addressed with the business owner or manager. Who wants to drive 45 miles for a hamburger or pizza? Not me.

I would ask a simple request that before blasting a business or person on social media that we give them the common courtesy to pick up the phone and call them first.
