Stewart’s hosts 4H Market Sweepstakes
On Sunday Nov. 17, children from across Young County came to Stewart’s Food Store with a single goal in mind: collecting food for the local food bank.
The children came from different branches of 4-H. Olney 4-H Club, Salt Fork 4-H Club from Newcastle, and Lone Star 4-H Club from Graham all competed.
With a budget of $75 each, their goal was to buy as much from the shelves as possible without going over their budgets. This not only taught the children a valuable lesson in budgeting and economics, but also what sales tax is.
The children were also instructed to make sure that the foods that they chose were well balanced. In previous years, the children focused heavily on ramen noodles despite their high sodium content - because there was also a prize for the team that got the most items.
In the end, each team brought a huge basket of food to donate to the local food bank for a combined $225. This combined with valuable life lessons and skills will undoubtedly make an impact on the students. Jason Pack and the Stewart family love to help our community in any way that they can. Supporting these children is just one more way they choose to do this.
