Seek the Lord

THE REFUGE DEVOTIONAL

“Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.” Isaiah 55:6 NASBS

Dear Reader, I testify to this in my own life, the way of the Lord leads to peace. To state that the Lord brought me to peace implies that I had previously lived in turmoil, without the presence of peace.

That is, I once lived in decadence and profligate living. Utter darkness filled my every thought and I pursued wanton pleasures. The darkness that I speak of, is the carnal appetites of the flesh that were hidden in my heart, locked away from everyone, but me.

Understand this, nothing is free. The one thought that is contrived within the mind that is contrary to God’s word, opens up more doors to deceitful actions and vile corruption.

You see, the more I presented the members of my body to impurity and to lawlessness, the deeper I became imprisoned in my own sin. As I reflect back upon those moments, I was wasting away with licentious thoughts of perversion, hurting everyone that loved me, hating myself and what I had become. I found myself in one of the darkest moments of my life, trembling, thinking there was no hope for me. The scriptures ring true, “The way of the transgressors is hard.”

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved me, even when I was dead in my transgressions, made me alive together with Christ (by grace I have been saved), and raised me up with Him, and seated me with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward me in Christ Jesus.

I personalized these verses from Ephesians because I believe that is the only way to salvation for everyone who comes to Christ. I would never do anything to change the Scriptures, but I do believe that Jesus loved me with a love that surpasses all understanding.

You see, I was dead in my sins with no hope whatsoever, confined in a prison cell of iniquity and the gospel came to me. God opened my eyes to see the majesty of His son, Who bore my punishment on the cross thousands of years ago.

My friend, sin will take you far beyond your imagination, and will rob you of all the joy and contentment that Jesus can offer in this life. I was once asked, “Rodney, what if you’re wrong about Jesus?” I responded: “If so, what have I lost? In Jesus, I have learned about the true meaning of sacrificial love, alongside grace, mercy, joy, forgiveness, long suffering, and everything else that is attributed to His character. Not only that, but I have a hope that is outside of man. So in Jesus, not only have I gained this world, but also the world that is to come. But my friend, if I am right, you have lost everything.”

But I am not wrong. You see, Jesus is the cornerstone of truth that you can trust and build your life upon. He is the lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world. He can offer you mercy, redemption, pardon, comfort, strength, deliverance, and the glory to come.

Beloved, “Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.” Believe in Him and seek His face, seek His love, seek His glory, seek the sweet visitations of His presence, and wrestle in holiness to overcome the sins that so easily entangle you. “Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.”
