Red, White and Blue

While I was looking up the history of Fourth of July and reading about the Thirteen Colonies, my attention stuck on the American Flag. In turn it made me think of my Faith. I have seen the American flag my entire life, but I never truly focused on it. Maybe because my Faith in the Lord has grown or maybe because I’m seeing through spiritual eyes more now than ever before, but the colors reminded me of Christ and my salvation.

Red, white, and Blue.

The red reminded me of the blood that Jesus Christ shed on the cross that cleanses us from all sin. “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” -1 John 1:7

The white reminded me that Christ is without sin and that through His suffering, death, and resurrection, we are made white as snow. “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” -Isaiah 1:18

The blue reminded me of the sky and the heavenly realm as described in Exodus. “and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity.” -Exodus 24:10

And do not let me forget the stars—The stars remind me of light in a dark place, of hope and of Christ being our bright and morning star. “And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;” -2 Peter 1:19

Spending this holiday with friends and family is important. So is talking about Christ and what He did for our salvation. Maybe you can use the American flag to spark up that conversation. You never know what darkness someone is going through, and your fellowship might just be that bit of light they need to brighten their day. Enjoy the holiday and show your friends and family you care and tell them God cares too.
