OVFD needs Olney to turn out for Texoma Gives

The Olney Fire Department extended its thanks to the community and fellow volunteer firefighters for help with the Campbell fire, while reminding supporters about the upcoming Texoma Gives fundraising event on Sept. 7.

“To the citizens of Olney, thank you for monetary donations, donations of water, drinks, snacks, personal care items, food, and medications,” OVFD Fire Chief Clint Pulliam said.

Chief Pulliam also thanked the Salt Creek Volunteer Fire Department, the Loving VFD, the Newcastle VFD, the Archer City VFD, the Megargel VFD, the Graham-Young County Rural Fire Department, the Scotland VFD, the Windthorst VFDD, the Seymour VFD, the Punkin Center VFD, the Eliasville VFD, the Jacksboro VFD, and the Jermyn VFD.

The Department also thanked the Young County Sheriff ’s Department, the Olney Police Department, and the State Highway Department for their help during the four-day Campbell fire, which stopped traffic along State Highway 79 for a time.

The OVFD urged supporters to donate through Texoma Gives, a day of online giving designed to raise awareness of North Texas nonprofits.

“This year, we will be raising money for replacement of numerous tires, truck maintenance and repairs,” Chief Pulliam said. Tires are an ongoing need, as firefighters inadvertantly drive over tree stumps and metal pipes in pastures, he said.

The OVFD maintains four brush trucks, a pumper for structure fires, a rescue truck that responds to house fires and automobile accidents, and an 8,000-gallon tanker truck. The vehicles require maintenance on radiators, water lines, brake systems, and pumps, he said.

“The Olney VFD thanks the community for all their prayers and support on all of the calls that we respond to, and any help that can be given during the Texoma Gives [at TexomaGives.org/ organizations/olney-volunteer- fire-department] would be greatly appreciated,” Chief Pulliam said.
