OPD asks for public’s help finding gas thieves

The Olney Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding gas thieves that struck at a gas station on Aug. 17 at approximately 1:30 a.m. “Two unknown white males, one in a red Dodge [Duelly] and the other in a white possible one-ton pickup pulling a U-Haul trailer pulled up to the pumps at the Kwick Mart and appeared to have a key opening the pump, switching it into maintenance mode,” OPD said in a statement.

The pair stole more than 350 gallons of diesel fuel. Anyone who sees these vehicle in town is asked to call the police department immediately. Police said they are working on leads gleaned from social media and are communicating with other law enforcement agencies. The thieves are not believed to be from the Olney area. “They tend to hit and then wait several weeks or months and then hit again,” police said. “There is no indication that these suspects are affiliated in any way with the store where this occurred.”
