Olney High School, Hinson, Johnson win at Golf District

The OHS girls and boys golf teams started a two-day district golf meet that began on Thursday, March 30. They took to the course for the second round Wednesday, April 5, which was very eventful: both teams won the District 9-2A titles.

“I’m excited and very proud of my team for getting first place in the district,” senior Peyton Elliott said. “We had two other teams to compete with this year and we knew what we had to do so we went and did it.”

The Lady Cubs ended its first day ahead of other teams by 31 strokes. Helping to lead the Lady Cubs to a victory, Ellie Hinson took first place, Aubrey Daugherty took second place, and Katelynn Bailey tied for third.

Along with the Lady Cubs, the Cubs ended the first day ahead of their teams by 25 strokes. Leading the Cubs were Caleb Johnson in first and Gatlin Guy in third.

The Cubs and Lady Cubs took on day two just as strong. The Lady Cubs won their district meet, sweeping the board by a total of 64 strokes. The Cubs sealed their victory with an astonishing 61 stroke lead.

“I’m so excited to go back to regionals this year for my senior year,” Elliott said. “It was a great experience last year getting to hang out and meet so many new people and I feel confident with our ability to earn a spot to head to state.”

The Cubs and Lady Cubs will continue with their season at regionals April 17-18. The regional meet is set to take place in Corpus Christi at Lozano Golf Course.
