Olney Chamber recognizes members at 98th banquet

The Olney Chamber of Commerce held its 98th annual banquet at the Durango Rustic Retreat to hand out awards for 2024.

The awards banquet gives members a chance to have an evening out with friends and families and the Chamber a chance to recognize members in the community for their selfless giving.

The event included dinner hosted by Dos Leones of Graham, a silent auction and an awards presentation.

Those receiving awards this year are: Landon Rowe presented the Volunteer of the Year award to Keep Olney Beautiful for overseeing the construction of the new municipal swimming pool at Tom Griffin Park. KOB President Kyle Turner accepted the award for the group.

Jordan Haralson presented the Pipeline Spirit Award to Jake Randall, owner of the Windmill Inn (formerly The Pipeliner Inn).

Pastor Chad Edgington of the First Baptist Church of Olney presented the Pioneer Award to Verma Fobbs, a longtime nurse at Olney Hamilton Hospital and the organizer of the annual March for Jesus.

Mrs. Fobbs later thanked the Chamber for the award and Dr. Edgington for presenting it to her. “It is a great honor to receive this nomination and to serve the wonderful community of Olney,” she said in a statement. “May the Lord keep the City of Olney and make his face shine upon all that dwell within.”

Attorney Dan Branum presented the Citizen of the Year Award to Jason Pack of Stewart’s Food Store for his work on the Olney Car Show and other Chamber-sponsored events and his faithful service with the Olney Volunteer Fire Department.

Olney Police Chief Dan Birbeck presented the Business of the Year Award to Rocky Hickam Towing, which he said has aided the OPD and other area law enforcement agencies with reliable, roundthe- clock service. Mr. Hickam and his wife, Lindsey accepted the award, saying they were proud to serve the community and were a bit surprised at how quickly the business had grown.
