OJHS takes third at Seymour math competition

The Olney Junior High School Math/Science Team traveled to Seymour for their first meet of the year. After the meet the students had the opportunity to tour the Whiteside Museum of Natural History, also in Seymour. Results for the meet are as follows:

Overall number sense team placement third, calculator team placement third, mathematics team placement fourth, science team placement second and overall team placement (all events combined) third.

Individual scores

Sixth Grade

Abby Guerra- fifth place number sense, ninth place mathematics, fourth place science. Tavan Scrogum- eighth place number sense, second place calculator, fourth place mathematics, 10th place science. Richard Walp- ninth place number sense, third place calculator, sixth place mathematics, second place science. Ashton Burns- 10th place number sense, sixth place calculator, seventh place mathematics, fifth place science.

Seventh grade

Peyton Kulhanek- second place number sense, third place calculator, fourth place mathematics, eighth place science

Eighth grade

Carter Hinson- Fifth place number sense, 10th place science. Kiara Allen-  seventh place number sense, third place mathematics, ninth place science. Johana DeLira- 13th place number sense, 13th place mathematics, 14th place science. Hector Hernandez- 14th place number sense, 11th place mathematics, fifth place science

The next meet for the OJHS Math/Science Team will be at Olney Junior High on November 19. This will be the third year that OJHS has hosted the OJHS Math/Science Challenge. This year OJHS is working in cooperation with Tower Extrusions to enhance the experience for the participants. 

The students will have a guided of Tower Fab after the meet in an effort to promote the importance of math and science skills in the engineering industry.
